ARPÉGE TARATOA

“I am on a journey, always. Learning and unlearning. The more I am here, the more I realise how much I have to learn about the past. The past is how I walk into my future, it is through this lens that I illuminate my path, my purpose, and my creativity.” – Arpége Taratoa

Arpége Taratoa comes from a Fine Arts background, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (honours), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Maori Visual Arts - majoring in Photography and Moving Image. She has exhibited in Palmerston North, Auckland, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch and Tauranga.

Following her studies she worked as a Lecturer at NZTC in Auckland before going on Maternity Leave. Since then, she has contracted to Wakatu Inc, as a creative director/project manager on multiple creative projects. She has also worked for the Tauranga Art Gallery as a Curator, and has been working at Art Body Creative Studio as Studio Curator. In this role she works with the Artists to promote their practices in studio and through social media marketing.

Outside of her work, Arpége is passionate about traditional forms of creativity that go beyond the physical realm of creating. She works with traditional womb healing modalities to support wahine in moving stored trauma in order to release creative potential.
